NOMINATIVE SINGULAR
Hh ekklhsia (hay ek’klaysia / η εκκλησια) – Acts 9:31, 19:32, 1 Corinthians 14:5, 23, Ephesians 5:24, Colossians 1:24, 1 Timothy 5:16
Acts 9:31 So THE MULTITUDE throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and were being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and grew in number.
** Acts 19:31-33
31 And even some of the Asiarchs, who were friends of his, sent to him and were urging him not to venture into the theater.
32 Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the MULTITUDE was in confusion, and most of THEM did not know why they had come together.
33 Some of the crowd prompted Alexander, whom the Jews had put forward. And Alexander, motioning with his hand, wanted to make a defense to the crowd.
Note: The unspiritual nature of ecclesia. This multitude does not belong to God. It is just a mob of people. See Genesis 49:6
* 1 Corinthians 14:4-6
4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up THE MULTITUDE.
5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that THE MULTITUDE may be built up.
6 Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?
Note: The unspiritual nature of ecclesia. The opposite of himself in this verse is ecclesia. See Genesis 49:6
Also note that the word everyone can also fit nicely. See Leviticus 14:3
1 Corinthians 14:22-24
22 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
23 If, therefore, THE WHOLE MULTITUDE comes together and ALL speak in tongues, and ignorant or unbelievers enter, will they not say that YOU (plural) are [raving] (DRC Jer.29:26)?
24 But if ALL (plural) prophesy, and an ignorant or outsider enters, he is convicted by ALL (plural), he is called to account by ALL (plural),
Note: ecclesia is teamed up with the plural of all and you. In fact the words ‘all’ or ‘you’ fit nicely when replacing ‘the whole multitude’. See Leviticus 14:3
Ephesians 5:23-25
23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head OF THE MULTITUDE, Savior of the body.
24 Now as THE MULTITUDE submit to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved THE MULTITUDE and gave himself up for it,
Colossians 1:23-25
23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of HIS BODY, that is, THE MULTITUDE,
25 for which I became a servant according to the job from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,
1 Timothy 5:15-17
15 For some have already strayed after Satan.
16 If any believing woman has relatives who are widows, let her care for them. Don’t let THE THE MULTITUDE be burdened, so that they may care for those who are really widows.
17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.
